T O P I C R E V I E WMMarieHow do I know if an aspect in my natal chart is separating or applying? Also waning and waxing? My moon in 25 degrees Leo and Sun is 27 degrees Leo. Would this make my moon waxing or waning? GrahamThe terms waxing and waning are used to describe which half of the two-planet cycle the faster moving planet is in. If it is separating from the conjunction with the slower moving planet (and thus applying to the opposition), the aspect is waxing. If it is applying to the conjunction with the slower moving planet (and thus separating from the opposition), the aspect is waning. ... So, if the faster moving planet has not yet reached the 180 degree opposition point to the slower moving planet, it is waxing - and if it has passed that point, it is waning. (Hence, your Moon is waning.)With progressions and transits to the natal chart, the natal planet is the slower moving planet (because it remains static for the whole lifetime). Here though, aspects are described as applying when they have not yet reached the point of exactitude (at which the orb = zero) - and as separating when they have passed that point. So, transit Moon square natal Sun would be applying at 89degs59mins, exact at 90degs00mins and separating at 90degs01mins. (And, at the time of birth, your natal Moon was applying to a conjunction with your natal Sun.)You will also come across the term partile ... http://www.skyscript.co.uk/gl/partile.html MMarieThank you Graham for explaining all of this! Good to know about my moon. RandallThanks, Graham!
